The course condition is currently very good and as the warmer weather approaches the condition of the fairways and surrounds will continue to improve. Currently, most fairways are in good condition coming out of winter, the exceptions are 5th, 11th and 12th which will need extra time to fill in. It is envisaged that all fairways will be 100% by Christmas.
The drying off of the fairways over the last two summers has been a direct result of not having enough holding capacity in the dams. This combined with record breaking hot and dry conditions on King Island, we were unable to continue watering the fairways over the later summer months.
The good news however is that over the past winter the dam enlargement project has been completed, almost doubling the water holding capacity which is now full to the brim from recent rains.
We are now in a position to irrigate throughout the summer to ensure the fairways have good turf and 100% grass cover. A firm and fast surface will remain, it is a links course after all!
The greens, surrounds and tees are all in excellent condition. We look forward to welcoming golfers to Ocean Dunes in the coming season and taking on the challenge of playing pure links golf.
